Matsunaga Elementary School students make oyster balls out of concrete

  • Fourth graders at Matsunaga Elementary School are making oyster balls in partnership with the WSSC, which are large concrete balls that will sit in the Chesapeake Bay and provide oysters a habitat. The oysters help filter the bay water to keep it healthy, as the amount of natural oysters in the bay has become significantly smaller over the last 50 years.

  • Tom Fedor/The Gazette Photographed Wednesday afternoon, February 23, 2011, outside Fort Detrick along Rosemont Avenue in Frederick, MD, Vietnam veterans, led by Lou Krieger, protesting Agent Orange stood with Kristin Renee Foundation supporters, including former pastor Randy White, who have been battling Fort Detrick regarding cancers the foundation attribute to the contamination of the surrounding ground water by fort Detrick. Veterans held signs and further down Rosemont Lane, displayed the "Agent Orange Quilt of Tears," a memorial for veterans who have died of exposure to the chemical. Kristen Renee Hernandez, 30, is White's daughter who died of brain cancer in 2008. Krieger is a Baltimore native who now lives in Myrtle Beach.

The Number Systems Board met Thursday February 10, 2011 to discuss the issues.
